KUAH, LANGKAWI (15 OCTOBER 2016) – HE Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili, Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water officially launched the Karnival YaHijau Langkawi 2016 programme at the De Baron Resort in Kuah, Langkawi, Kedah. The 2-day carnival was visited by over 5,000 attendees from local communities, students from schools and educational institutions, government agencies, industry players and tourists.
The Karnival YaHijau Langkawi 2016 programme was organized by Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (YaHijau) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), and the Kedah State Government. The carnival focused on efforts to promote and enhance the public’s understanding and interest in green lifestyle practices and green technology applications, whilst also promoting green technology among the people, especially at the grassroots level.
In conjunction with the Karnival YaHijau Langkawi 2016, HE Datuk Seri Panglima Dr. Maximus Johnity Ongkili also launched the ‘Kedah Green Agenda’. The Agenda lists 14 initiatives or ‘green actions’ to be implemented in the State of Kedah to ensure that it is placed as one of the best models in Malaysia in implementing a green technology development agenda. This is so that the Kedah state develops in a green and sustainable environment with a healthy community and increasing economic growth.
During the event, the certificate of appointment of the Green Auditing Program to 28 schools in Langkawi was also conducted. The Green Auditing Program aims to identify and assess the level of resource management towards improving the efficiency and utilization of electricity, water, consumables (such as paper, ink, printer and office waste) in schools. The program aims to create a baseline for eco-friendly school management.

Haji Nawawi bin Haji Ahmad, Member of Parliament, Langkawi, HE Nor Saidi bin Haji Nanyan, State Assemblyman of Dun Kuah, YBhg. Dato ‘Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini bin Ujang, General Secretary, Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water, Mr. Haji Ishak bin Murat, District Officer of Langkawi and Mr. Amin Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Hijau Malaysia.
