LAWAS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has approved RM 35 million for the construction of the proposed SMK Long Semadoh and RM 5.5 million towards equipment and repair of 110 churches in the Ba Kelalan constituency.
Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili announced this while officiating the 8th Jelajah Yahijau Sarawak 2016 programme at Long Tuan in Lawas today (May 5).
“The prime minister has instructed me to communicate this approval and allocations for Ba Kelalan in my visits to Long Semadoh and here today with SPDP president Dato Seri Tong King Sing ,” he said.
He was in Long Semadoh earlier in support of the election campaign for direct BN candidate Willie Liau who is seeking to defeat PKR candidate Baru Bian in their bid to wrest Ba Kelalan back from the Opposition in the 11th State Election.
Dr Maximus said the school project was expected to begin early next year after early preliminary works which can start this July.
“ The school project was already approved in the past but funds were diverted to other more pressing needs, partially due to the competition for funds after Ba Kelalan fell to the Opposition,” he said.
Maximus said a 25-acre site has already been made available. The school would cater for the four feeder schools and for a population of 300 students, with 13 classrooms and 13 teachers and boarding facilities.
“Only the BN candidates deliver all these, and I appeal to the people in Ba Kelalan to vote wisely on May 7,” he said.
The programme organised by Yayasan Hijau Malaysia (Yahijau) and his ministry aimed at promoting greater exposure to the public for better understanding and appreciation of an environmentally-friendly lifestyle and applications of green technology.
The minister later presented cheques to selected schools in Lawas for green corner projects.
